Staff at City Hall - Sheffield are ecstatic, after landing yet another award for business tourism excellence and walking away with the award for Business Tourism of the Year at the White Rose Awards 2009.
Held in Leeds last night, over 800 people from the tourism industry gathered for the prestigious black tie awards ceremony, dubbed the region’s “tourism Oscars”, which is organised by tourism agency Welcomes to Yorkshire.
The venue faced stiff competition from the very best of the region going up against the likes of Harrogate International Centre, The National Media Museum in Bradford, The Spa, Bridlington and The Queens in Leeds.
General Manager of both City Hall - Sheffield and SIV Conferencing & Events, Dominic Stokes, was naturally delighted with the result and spoke of his overwhelming pride on the venue’s success:
“This means everything to the team at the venue and Sheffield International Venues. Of all the awards we’ve been up for recently, this is the one we were after.
To be recognised in a category with such a high calibre of competition and to be adjudicated by an independent panel shows what a massive achievement this is.
Yorkshire, and particularly the South Yorkshire region, demonstrates excellence in every area and I am proud the City Hall and SIV Conferencing and Events is leading the county in business tourism.”

No stranger to success, this continues a winning streak for the venue, having already scooped both the Insider Business Tourism Award 2009 for Large Venue of the Year and the Grand Prix Prize as the overall winners of the Insider Business Awards, earlier this year.
Prior to this, Sheffield City Hall’s conferencing and events team were awarded the Hospitality Sheffield Award for Team of the Year in 2008 and the venue was also named in The Independent’s Top 10 desirable conference destinations alongside Regency Hotel, London and Aston Villa Football Club.
The tension now continues, as staff await to see if they can achieve further glory as all fourteen of winners of this year's White Rose Awards 2009 will now be entered into the national Enjoy England Awards for Excellence 2010.
